Product Analytics
Metrics that tell you what about your product is working, what isn't — and what's behind that.

Unlocking value from your data.
Hi. I'm Josh Wenk, a career Analytics and Data Science professional. I help organizations turn data into actionable insights, recommendations, and models that drive roadmaps, shape user experiences, inform strategic leadership decisions, and grow revenue.
I speak both business and tech. I help bridge the gap between the two, facilitating alignment and value delivery.
My goal is to leave you with something your team owns. If this sounds interesting, let's talk.
Data Science and Analytics: Product, Customer/User/Donor, and Revenue.
Industries/Sectors: Mission-driven (Healthcare, Education, etc) and for-profit (B2B SaaS, Retail, Hospitality, Banking, etc). Startups, scale-ups, and established enterprises.
What I do
I've worked across a number of industries, always with an Analytics, Data Science, and Data Strategy lens. That generally splits into six main areas.
Metrics that tell you what about your product is working, what isn't — and what's behind that.
Behavioral questions, pointed at whomever your org exists to serve.
Prediction and inference for the questions a descriptive answer can't close out.
Getting technical and non-technical stakeholders to one vision, one roadmap, and something that actually ships.
Reporting built around the decisions people actually make, not every field in the warehouse.
The layer everything else depends on. Defined, agreed on, standardized, tested — so the same question stops getting different answers.
Sound familiar?
Below are some common scenarios I am familiar navigating. If one or more of these resonates, let's talk.
How to Engage
Some engagements are a standing thought partnership. Others are one hard question that needs answering.
Guidance on strategy, tooling, and org design without me holding the keyboard.
A standing sounding board, from someone who has seen successful (and not-so-successful) implementations.
Hands-on-keyboard as data analyst / data scientist.
A 30-minute call to walk through what isn't adding up. No pitch deck, no obligation.
Prior clients
Nonprofit and commercial work.
Some engagements I can't name, but I'm happy to describe the shape of them.
Alongside in-house analytics and data science roles at ZoomInfo, Capital One, Lidl US, Hilton, and Neustar — where the client list included Fortune 50 companies.

As Head of Data at Understood, I valued Josh's keen abilities with Product Analytics, Insights and Recommendations, Data Strategy, Data Product prototyping, Experimentation, Metrics design, as well as Data Observability and Data Quality.
He has helped me understand the importance of keeping an equally close eye on the infrastructure, the data that flows through it, and the analytics to unlock the value chain for our internal customers.
I had the pleasure of working with Josh during a period of rapid change. He led the development of key analytics pipelines and played a central role in defining product metrics that the team could trust. What I appreciated most was his ability to bridge conversations across product, data engineering, and software engineering, always thoughtful in approach, and clear in communication. He also helped us level up our practices around experimentation design and version control, raising the bar for how we worked.
Josh is the kind of person who makes the people and systems around him better.

About
Much of my career has been spent inside organizations rather than advising from outside them. So I know what it's like to inherit a dashboard nobody can maintain, be stuck with complaints about accuracy over which you have no direct control, and to be asked for a number by end of day that honestly takes a week to get right.
I've done contract consulting through an Agency for mission-driven and for-profit organizations. I moved into consulting more formally at Neustar, where I worked with Fortune 50 clients. At nearly all perm roles I have had, I have also functioned as an internal consultant, helping teams and leadership solve business challenges with data-driven insights and recommendations.
In 2021 I started taking on clients as a solo consultant, focusing on product analytics, customer analytics, and data strategy. I have deep experience working with both mission-driven and for-profit organizations. I take on a small number of clients at a time.
